DR. JEMIMA ARABA DENNIS-ANTWI

Dr. Jemima Araba Dennis-Antwi is a versatile Global Public health professional, midwife, nurse and family woman with over 35 extensive years of passion and drive for health systems strengthening through programmes and projects management. Dr. Dennis-Antwi has gone through the mill in her professional career development having played various leadership roles from district through regional, national and international levels. She has worked in over 14 African countries and with a global exposure to 44 countries overall (31 in Africa).

These have positioned her to serve in permanent and independent consultancy or Technical Committee roles for agencies such as International Confederation of Midwives, American College of Nurse-Midwives, Population Council-USAID, DfID, White Ribbon Alliance, New Ventures Fund-BMGF, UNFPA, UNICEF, WHO, UN Women, Jhpiego and World Vision International. Her recent assignments have been with Libya (UNFPA), Sierra Leone and Somalia (UNFPA) helping to build midwifery systems disrupted by years of war and structural disintegration. She has lived and worked in Ghana, UK, Nigeria and Sierra Leone.

Dr. Jemima Dennis-Antwi is currently the Founding President and CEO for Centre for Health Development and Research (CEHDAR)- a Ghana based non-profit organisation she is leading with national and international focus on midwifery and nursing policy, advocacy, health professional capacity development and leadership building, strategy formulation, research and women’s health. A few of her previous positions/roles have included first and foundation President and Acting Rector for the establishment of Ghana College of Nurses and Midwives; ICM Anglophone Africa Technical Advisor and Resident International Midwifery Consultant, UNFPA-Sierra Leone. Dr. Dennis-Antwi serves on local and international Boards for health and education improvements.

She is also a multiple award recipient; such as admission into the maiden HALL OF FAME OF NURSING AND MIDWIFERY by the Ghana Ministry of Health (2021) and Yale University -USA School of Nursing Scholar in Midwifery (2017). She has scientific publications and strategic policy documents to her credit and is a fellow of the West African Postgraduate College of Nurses and Midwives and Fellow of the Ghana College of Nurses and Midwives. She is excited and humbled to bring her multi-dimensional skills on board as the Convener of this maiden Midwifery Summit 2024.
